About Cormac

I’m Cormac Dorrian, a composer, conductor, arranger, producer and teacher. My career connects the studio, the rehearsal room, the stage and the classroom.

After studying at Guildhall School of Music and Goldsmiths’ College, I worked as a session musician and producer in the early 1990s. My work as a music associate brought me into projects with Barrington Pheloung, Richard Rodney Bennett and Maurice Jarre.

​

I went on to write music for short films, documentaries, commercials and radio, alongside production-library music and concert works. My chamber music includes Next Sunday Afternoon for oboe and piano, published by Forton Music in 2015. Closer, a collection of ten solo piano pieces, was released in 2020.

​

As a musical director, I have worked with Brighton Theatre Group, City Theatre Company and DAODS. My conducting experience includes guest appearances with Dartford Symphony Orchestra.

Teaching brings these strands together: listening closely, explaining musical choices and turning understanding into practical work. Teaching Musicians is the next part of that work, with resources initially focused on Component 1 of the Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Music Practice.

My broadcasting experience includes presenting The Chill Zone for Finn Valley FM in January 2023.
